She is perhaps the youngest heroine in Tamil cinema. She is on a roll. Her Telugu film Happy Days has set the box office on fire while her Tamil film Kalloori is one of the most talked about films in recent times.

She has now signed a film with Tamil superstar Surya, produced by AVM and directed by national award winning cinematographer, K V Anand.

She has three Telugu films in her kitty as well. In fact, Tamanna is being touted as the most promising actress in both film industries.

Few know that Tamanna started acting at the age of 13. Now, at 18, the actress is juggling acting, endorsements and schooling. She has just enrolled for a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree course in Economics.

She had made her debut with KD and proved her mettle. The film bombed, but the young lady was optimistic and waited for the right breaks. Soon she was signed by none other than Balaji Sakthivel who had made that pathbreaking film Kathal. In fact, today Tammana is considered as the most promising star of Kollywood as well as Tollywood.

Having earned rave reviews for her negative character in director Vishal Bharadwaj’s Shakesprean film ‘Maqbool’ one would think that the versatile Tabu would be open to such shaded roles again but word has it that despite many such offers the actress has refused to get type cast in such characters. Recently film maker Abhinay had approached Tabu for a similar role and Tabu though inclined to accept it had asked the filmmaker to make some changes such that her character would not be out and out negative. We will have to wait and watch whether Abhinay obliged the lovely lady.

London, March 24 (IANS) Singer Dannii Minogue has been roped in to front Marks and Spencer's women's wear campaign.

The X Factor judge, 38, who's pregnant with her first child, will feature alongside Ana Beatriz Barros, the Brazilian supermodel, singer V.V. Brown, Lisa Snowdon, the 'Strictly Come Dancing' star and model Twiggy to promote the M&S spring campaign for womenswear and lingerie.

Abhay Deol had almost got rejected for ‘Road, Movie’

Mumbai, Dev Benegal, who can’t stop raving about Abhay Deol now, admits that initially he had rejected him for the role in “Road, Movie”.“My casting director had given me some pictures of Abhay long back, where he was shirtless and those were all posey glamorous pictures. Katrina Kaif has a point to prove in Raajneeti. It’s not just the National Award that she’s aiming to get with her performance. It’s the long-winded rhetorical dialogues that she wants to get tone-and-pitch-perfect so that once and for all no one would ever say she can’t speak Hindi fluently. Katrina admits her Hindi has improved considerably after working in Raajneeti. “None of my roles so far required any specific fluency in the way I spoke. When I got a chance I decided to work on it really hard.”

Sonu Sood fractures his nose while shooting

The shooting of Dabangg in Wai seems to be quite an accident-prone event for the cast and crew. Only last week, Salman Khan was rushed to a local hospital after he complained of smoke congestion when a fire erupted on the sets. Now Salman’s co-star in Dabangg, Sonu Sood has landed himself with a fractured nose while shooting for the film earlier this week. “Yes…It’s true that I got hurt two days ago while shooting. We were shooting a fight scene between Salman and me that is a part of the climax. During the practice, one of the fighters jumped and his knee happened to hit my nose real hard. The pain was quite severe and I was taken to the hospital for an X-ray and scan. The X-ray revealed a fracture in my nose. The doctor advised me bed rest for 3-4 days, but since we were shooting the climax scene between Salman and me I didn’t want to delay the schedule. I landed on the sets the very next day after taking some painkillers and shot for some light scenes” said Sonu. One must say that Sonu has indeed shown true professionalism by continuing to shoot in spite of a fractured nose.

Actress Preity Zinta was appointed UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador and plans to combine Cricket and Bollywood to raise awareness about the deadly disease. The 35-year-old actress who is the co-owner of IPL team Kings XI Punjab, will donate 25 percent of the profits made by her team to charities selected by the UN. "The players of my team will be wearing ribbons for the cause of HIV-AIDS. Someone living with HIV will come on the field and toss for our matches. Me and my team will also be making field trips in Punjab," the actress told reporters here. Preity will be making public service message films for UNAIDS featuring herself and the players which will be in English, Hindi and Punjabi. She promised to ask for support from the film fraternity, who she noted are always up for a cause. "I'll try to garner support from Bollywood. No one ever says no and I am sure if they have the time, they'll be available for it," Preity said. "I am taking on a new role. 40 percent of the people suffering from HIV-AIDS are women. What is disturbing is they pass it to their children. The people suffering from HIV face discrimination which is unacceptable," she added. The actress who has essayed socially relevant roles in movies like 'Kya Kehna', Lakshya' and 'Videsh' is all geared up for her new assignment and said that she will be the "voice of the voiceless". Congratulating her for accepting the honour, Dr Charles Gilks, UNAIDS Country Coordinator, India said, "As a Goodwill Ambassador she will help in keeping AIDS on the agenda of politicians and journalists. Actress Shriya Saran’s Mission Istanbul has bombed at the box office, but she is happy with the way her career is shaping up. From music videos to Tollywood to the Hindi film industry and now Hollywood, she has been climbing the ladder of success. Back in the city for the shooting of a Tamil film Kandaswami, Shriya says, “Hyderabad is like home to me and it feels great to be here. I was at the Poison launch party and met up with all my old friends after such a long time.” Disappointed with the failure of Mission Istanbul? “When a film doesn’t do well, it is natural that you will feel bad. But the important thing is I have given it my 100 per cent and have worked very hard for the film,” she says. When asked what she felt went wrong with the film, she replied, “It’s not right for me to comment on this. A film is a by-product of the energies and efforts of a lot of people. On hindsight, you can point out many mistakes, but you can never be sure about the fate of a movie from before it releases.” Talking about her recent Tamil film, Shriya says that though it is a commercial movie, it has a poignant social message. “The film is about the economic disparity in the country — how the rich are getting richer while the poor are becoming poorer.
